Two men are due in court today after being charged with murder after two teenagers from Newport were killed in an incident in Alway on Thursday.
Terell Case, 18 and Joshua Williams, 34, have been charged with the murders of 16-year-old Ta-Shay Canoville and 19-year-old Jaydon Bowyer. Both of the teenagers from Newport died in an incident on Aberhaw Road in the early hours of Thursday morning, May 7. Jaydon and Ta-Shay are believed to have been riding a motorbike in the Alway area of the city when they were allegedly struck by a BMW car, reports WalesOnline.
Tributes have been flooding in since news of the their tragic deaths broke. Devastated loved ones have described them as the "best of mates". Jaydon's mum Sophie Pederson said in a post that she was "struggling to process the loss of you, my first born, my whole world, my absolute everything". A 40-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder as part of Gwent Police's investigation into the incident.
Both have since been released. The two men charged with murder are due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 11, and have been remanded into police custody ahead of their appearances in court. Gwent Police closed Aberthaw Road in Alway at around 1am on Thursday. Emergency services remained at the scene for several hours and the road remained closed.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said on Thursday: "Officers from Gwent Police investigating a report of a road traffic collision in Aberthaw Road, Newport, are appealing for witnesses.
"The collision reportedly involved a BMW car and a motorbike; the BMW is believed to have left the scene before police arrival. Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Steven Maloney, said: “Both Jaydon and Tashay's families are being supported by specialist officers and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.
“We would like to thank the community for their support while we continue to investigate fully the circumstances of these tragic deaths. “We understand that reports of this nature can be concerning to our communities. “We have been working around the clock to gather and assess evidence and we have liaised closely with our colleagues in the CPS to reach these two charging decisions.
“While our enquiries continue over the coming days, you are likely to see an increased number of officers in the area. ”
