Telford has been recognized as one of the greenest places to live in the UK, thanks to its extensive green spaces, commitment to sustainability, and focus on environmental health. The town boasts over 2,500 hectares of green areas, with 90% of its urban area designated as green space. Telford's efforts have earned it a second-place ranking in the UK for air quality in the 2023 Green Cities Index.

They were looking for places across the nation that were ranked based on sustainability practices, green spaces , public transport options, local food production, community engagement, renewable energy use, eco-friendly housing, air quality , support for local businesses, and recognition for green efforts.The town is described “one of the greenest places to live in the UK - despite being near some of the most industrially-heavy cities in the UK – Wolverhampton, Birmingham to name just a couple”.

“A staggering 90 per cent of its urban area is green space, while 89 per cent of households in Telford are within 300 metres of accessible green spaces.“Telford has a dedicated Green Network Area, which encompasses a range of open environments suitable for all sorts of outdoor activities, such as walking, jogging, cycling, horse riding and more, providing lots of open spaces to keep the residents fit and healthy.

“Finally, the Town Park is home to several outdoor play areas for children, as well as dedicated walks to nearby canal networks, while other sites in Telford including the Dothill and Shawbirch Local Nature Reserve, have won Green Flag Awards for their environmental and sustainability impacts.
