There have been mixed opinions about the 20mph speed limit scheme
The first 20mph speed limits have already been rolled out across many of Wirral’s roads, with the council now in the second stage of changing more roads to 20mph.
The scheme has been implemented to create safer streets and reduce the number of people getting seriously injured or killed in road accidents, but has not been without its critics. Opposition to the new 20mph roads has become more evident over recent weeks. A petition opposing the plans has received over 6,000 signatures and continues to grow.
Another reader, Helen HE wrote: ‘’I would support every side street being a 20 and routes through town centres like Neston but not on the main artery roads. It's slowing the buses down too because most of them are main bus routes.’’ Merseyside police have recently clarified their stance on the scheme. Merseyside’s police commissioner said police teams supported the introduction of 20mph speed limits across Wirral.
