Nachos can be served as a main course, a side dish, or an appetizer. Nachos are believed to have been invented in 1943 by Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya, a maître d' at the Victory Club in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. Anaya created the dish for a group of American women who were looking for a snack. He started with fried tortilla chips and added shredded cheddar cheese and sliced jalapeños. He then heated the dish in the oven until the cheese was melted and created a delicious nacho dish. Nachos are now enjoyed by people all over the world.
