Repairs did not begin immediately because a contractor initially hired to fix the panels discovered there was more damage. The city intervened, mandating a new steeple design that meets current wind codes, which are put in place to ensure structures withstand high wind speeds during severe weather. “We’re ready to get it replaced,” said Reverend Shaw. “It’ll be a brand new steeple — looks just like the current one from the outside. But it will be a much stronger one built with the current wind codes.”
