Erik ten Hag is back under pressure at Man Utd after his side were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford.
They had played two-and-a-half minutes of the second half when Erik ten Hag shook his head on the back row of the home dugout at Old Trafford. It was as clear a sign as any that Manchester United's hopes of a rousing comeback against Liverpool were closer to impossible than implausible.
Ten Hag has only lost twice to Liverpool, but it was 7-0 at Anfield and 3-0 at Old Trafford. His team have lost 16 of their last 41 Premier League games. He has had an unprecedented run of leniency compared to who and what came before him. By the time he reached the dugouts - via a fist bump with Fred the Red - there was a business-like handshake between the two. There was little of the warmth and smiles that they greeted each other with in South Carolina a month ago when there was nothing on the line beyond match fitness and the chance to work on a few ideas.
It's not difficult to discern which approach was working. On three occasions Slot turned to his staff and punched the air to celebrate goals. Towards the end, the away support broke into his chant. Slot didn't respond. While Ten Hag has tried to foster a bond with United supporters, Slot is letting the football do the talking.
