Terence Crawford became a four-division champion on Saturday night in Los Angeles when he scored a unanimous decision win over Israil Madrimov. A few weeks before the fight, I spoke with Crawford and asked him about a potential rematch with Errol Spence if he defeated Madrimov.
It's unclear what has changed in the past few weeks, though Spence was initially supposed to challenge Sebastian Fundora for his WBC and WBO titles at 154 pounds. However, that fight has been postponed.Perhaps Crawford is detecting potential delays and refuses to be held up. Quite honestly, many likely doubt how much Spence has left as a fighter considering his most recent performances and his recovery from a serious car accident.
Canelo will be heavily favored against Berlanga, and should he win as expected, the vast majority of the questions will be about a potential clash with Crawford. Crawford's jump to 168 pounds would be arguably the toughest task of his Hall-of-Fame career. He began his career at 135 pounds.
