The three university students were terrified to find a California kingsnake scurrying across their Edinburgh flat.

Three undergraduate students were left horrified after finding a five-foot-long snake in their Edinburgh flat.

Alula said: “I felt like I was going to be sick, like physically sick. I feel so weird, because obviously, in Edinburgh, it's quite a safe place. I’d never, ever think that there would be a snake in my flat, but there was."Alula continued: “I think it was probably a bit curious, because we were sitting at the kitchen table and that's how it made its appearance. I was just baffled. We stood there in the kitchen for ages.

However, the girls said they were terrified when they first came across the serpent because they were unaware whether the creature was dangerous. Alula said: “Apparently, they like to climb through the drains because the pipes are warm. But the more we thought about it, the more scared we got thinking about how now we can just have snakes scrambling through our drains.”

Asha said: “We have a lot of black and white furniture - our curtains are black and white, we've got tapestries that are black and white. So wherever you look now, it's like, oh, the snake could be camouflaging itself.”
