The supermarket will be working with Westfalia Fruit, the UK's largest avocado supplier, on the new trial.
Tesco has announced a new trial for stores that will see it remove stickers from avocados in place of laser etchings.
The trial will see size or variety of the fruit branded into the skin similar to a tattoo. The supplier has said it has conducted extensive trials to ensure the quality, shelf life and taste of the popular salad item is not affected by the laser etchings. Tesco is working with Westfalia Fruit, the UK's main avocado supplier, on the trial that will be initially rolled out to 270 south-east England stores. If feedback is positive, it will be rolled out across the Tesco estate.
Tesco said it could also save nearly a million plastic stickers on its loose extra large avocados, based on current sales information provided by the supplier.
