Tesco Real Food shares a super-simple three-ingredient cheese scone recipe that is perfect for a teatime treat or packed up in lunchboxes for a picnic. This recipe provides a British classic in no time.
Scones remain a quintessentially British favourite, traditionally enjoyed with jam and cream. Cheese-filled savoury varieties have also gained popularity, best served warm with a generous spread of butter.
Tesco Real Food has unveiled a straightforward three-ingredient recipe for creating wonderfully soft and airy scones. According to the recipe: "Rustle up a British classic in no time with this super-simple three-ingredient cheese scone recipe. These little savoury scones are perfect for a teatime treat, packed up in lunchboxes for a picnic.
" The method produces 10 scones, though quantities can be adjusted depending on your requirements. Ingredients: Method: Combine the self-raising flour with 150g of grated cheese in a large mixing bowl.
Next, incorporate the low-fat natural yoghurt, stirring until the mixture binds together. Turn the dough onto a lightly dusted work surface and knead it gently several times until it is smooth. Shape into a round disc, then use a floured rolling pin to roll out to approximately 2cm thickness. Cut out 10 scones using a 6cm circular cutter, gathering and re-rolling any leftover dough as necessary.
Place onto a prepared baking tray and scatter the remaining 50g of grated mature Cheddar over the tops. Bake at 200°C/180°C Fan for 18 minutes, until the scones develop a pale golden colour and feel springy when touched. Move to a cooling rack to rest briefly, then enjoy while still warm, either as they are, or slice open and add butter or your preferred filling.
Tesco also suggested finely slicing spring onions or chives and folding them into the mixture to create cheese-and-onion scones. Alternatively, for those who prefer a bit of heat, a pinch of crushed chillies can be incorporated for an extra fiery flavour.
