Despite controversy surrounding professional dancers and behind-the-scenes misconduct, Tess Daly is determined to make Strictly Come Dancing's return a success. Facing low viewing figures and public scrutiny, Tess and Claudia Winkelman are working hard to keep the show going strong.
With all the controversy that’s been swirling around Strictly Come Dancing and the behaviour of its professional dancers, Tess Daly was determined not to let it cast a dark cloud over the show’s return this month. After a number of shock departures and the furore around the BBC ’s investigation into allegations of behind-the-scenes misconduct, the pressure is on Tess and Claudia Winkelman to deliver their most sparkling performance ever.
The overnight viewing figures for the BBC One show came in at around 5.5million, a massive drop from the 6.2m who tuned in to watch the likes of Ellie Leach and Bobby Brazier make their ballroom debuts in 2023. The show won the Best Talent Show gong for the eighth year in a row, beating off competition from The Great British Bake Off, MasterChef and The Voice UK. “It was a big blow when the ratings came in as it’s the lowest ever for a launch show and they thought after winning the NTA that more viewers would tune in,” our source claims.
Prior to the launch show on September 14, Tess posted a cute snap to her social media of a hand-written note from Vernon which said: “Good luck! 20 years amazing! Congrats We love you. Very Proud. Vern xxx”.“She’s so pleased that she’s got Vernon by her side, being her cheerleader and picking her up when she’s down or worried,” they told us. “He knows how much Strictly means to her and he’s promised to be by her side throughout it all.
