As people wait to see where Tropical Storm Beryl will make landfall on the Texas coast, agencies are preparing to assist in the event of a disaster.
"There's gonna be a time where we need help ourselves, and we live by a mantra, if you scratch our back, we scratch yours," Pflugerville Fire Battalion Chief Heath Doyle said. "We know those agencies are gonna become overwhelmed. We'd rather be there to help them, not only them but really the entire state of Texas ."on Sunday as it moves to the northwest. There is still forecast uncertainty as to where it will ultimately make landfall along the western Gulf coast.
We helped out during the, you know, the major wildfire events up in the Panhandle over the early spring," Doyle said. "And there's been a number of other ones that we've been on." "If it's a lot of flooding, that's, you know, that's one type of mission that we can perform. Or if it's a lot of structural damage, that's a different type that we can assist with," Doyle said.
We'll be sending volunteers in waves to wherever is impacted," community volunteer leader Julian Garza said. "Of course, obviously, it's kind of right now, it's just kind of organizing, preparing, and waiting to see how the days go on.""Also just ensuring that we are organizing shelters in areas around the city, just to ensure that for those, obviously, as I mentioned, that are impacted it, that they are getting taken care of," Garza said.
