Aaron Dean shot and killed Atatiana Jefferson through a window of her mother’s home in 2019 while responding to a nonemergency call from a concerned neighbor.
Dean, who is white, shot Jefferson, who was Black, while responding to a call about open doors at the East Fort Worth home late at night on Oct. 12, 2019. Dean was initially charged and tried for murder, but a Tarrant County jury found him guilty of a lesser charge of manslaughter and sentenced him to nearlybecause public comments made by the then-police chief, district attorney and mayor may have prejudiced the jury pool, court documents say.
