Representative Henry Cuellar said prosecutors refused to 'hear our side' before indicting him and his wife for accepting over half a million dollars in bribe.
Representative Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, said this week that he attempted to meet with prosecutors prior to being indicted for allegedly taking nearly $600,000 in bribes. The Associated Press reported on Friday that Cuellar was indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice on bribery and conspiracy charges in connection with an investigation into Cuellar's ties to business leaders and Azerbaijan.
In a statement obtained by the Associated Press, Cuellar disputed the allegations and said, 'we requested a meeting with the Washington D.C. prosecutors to explain the facts and they refused to discuss the case with us or hear our side.'''Everything I have done in Congress has been to serve the people of South Texas,' the statement said, according to the AP.
