Gov. Greg Abbott ordered state schools to defy updated federal rules that added protections for gender identity.

Texas lawmakers sent a congressional inquiry letter to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board stating that public colleges could violate civil rights and lose federal funding if they follow Abbott’s order to ignore updated Title IX rules.
