The lawmaker from Austin appears to be the first Democrat in Congress to openly criticize the president after his widely criticized debate performance.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett , D-Austin , called on President Joe Biden to withdraw from his reelection campaign on Tuesday, becoming the first congressional Democrat to openly criticize the 81-year-old president after his widely criticized debate performance last week. In a lengthy statement, Doggett credited Biden for his “transformational” work in office but said it is not enough to overcome poor polling and nationwide dissatisfaction with his candidacy.
