shareholders have agreed to provide a further £750m in funding, the firm has said, as it struggles under a £14bn mountain of debt.under pressure to avoid collapseThames Water has said the investment is a “major milestone” but warned that around another £2.5bn will be needed in following years for its turnaround to be delivered.
“The substantial equity support package announced today will underpin the delivery of a more focused turnaround plan that builds on the foundations that have been put in place over the last two years.” Ministers have considered putting the supplier under temporary public ownership over concerns about its ability to service its debts.Conservative MP Sir Robert Goodwill said the regulator had questions to answer over whether it had “been asleep at the wheel” over the affair.
