Bob Tindle's fabulous "Orange Crate" graced the February '62 cover of HOT ROD after being named America's Most Beautiful Hot Rod at the 1961 National Roadster Show. The 1932 Ford sedan was powered by a 417-cubic-inch, supercharged Olds V8 and represented the state of the art in show-quality drag cars.became the first man to break into the 400-mph club with his Spirit of America jet-J powered Land Speed Record car.

Wally Lassila's Cadillac-powered '23 T was featured in the May '66 issue. It was one of the earliest cars to use a fiberglass kit body. Wally's rod was a prime contemporary example of a clean, well-built '60s-style street rod.The L.A. Roadster Club and the Bay Area Roadster Club held annual North-South runs to share their views on hot rodding and show off their cars.

Bill Burke's Bonneville streamliner was the 15th car in a historic series of LSR cars run by the former HRM ad manager. Jim Clark, Lotus, and Ford Motor Company put an end to the front-engine, Offy domination at Indy by winning the premier American race with the Ford-powered, mid-engine Lotus in 1965. Front-engine cars disappeared almost immediately as the genre evolved rapidly toward its present state.
