'Good neighbours, superstar teachers and kind lollipop ladies are the bedrock of our brilliant county'
Nominations are still open for the 2024 Blackburn with Darwen Community Volunteer Awards. So far more than 300 individuals and groups have been put forward for the accolades.
There are a total of 19 awards available under 12 categories – these include the Good Neighbour Award, Volunteer of the Year, Environment Award, Health and Wellbeing Award, and the Community Involvement Award which is open to the local business community. Last year the youngest award winner was just eight-years-old and the eldest was 85 which means people can nominate people of any age who volunteer in any way in Blackburn with Darwen. The nominations could be for someone who gives their spare time for free to help out with sports clubs, someone who dedicates their time to a local charity, or someone who pitches in to keep neighbourhoods clean and tidy.
