The four ways Tories are plotting to change ancient rules to force out Theresa May

There's no other formal way for the party leader to face the boot except theThe PM's already seen a slew of resignations, several Cabinet backlashes and hundreds of Tories openly voting against her in the Commons - it's not changed a thing. Now activists are trying several other options to get her out before she does even more damage to the party, ConservativeHome reports.

One petition is already in the rounds which would slash the time between leadership contests from 12 months down to three, meaning another one could be held. If a group of MPs wanted to change the rules they could make a formal request to their executive to do this.A petition of 65 Tory local chairmen have signed a petition calling for an Extraordinary General Meeting. However, even though it would be embarrassing it might not automatically trigger a leadership battle, so the PM may be able to ignore it again.

She's facing a drubbing at the local elections next month too, and even with that it's difficult to see whether any of these plans would actually succeed in getting her out.
