Manchester City have enjoyed plenty of success in the transfer market but deadline day 2023 was different
The Blues may have spent big over the years, but more often than not they get it right. And away from the big money arrivals, City recoup substantial fees time and again.
This time a year ago it was a slightly different story, with more than £90million changing hands on two major deals, neither of which have worked out for City. The decision to sell Cole Palmer for £42.5m to Chelsea at the time looked smart business, but a year on, and with Alvarez having left, there must be at least a hint of regret at the Etihad.
And as Palmer walked out of the Etihad, Matheus Nunes arrived. The midfielder cost north of £50m from Wolves but has failed to kick on in Manchester and has been linked with an exit this summer just 12 months into a five year deal.
