Addictive Eaters Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other in a bid to recover from addictive eating - the group has 'transformed' the lives of many involved.
An anonymous Glasgow group is tackling disordered eating with a twelve step programme in a bid to help sufferers on their road to recovery.
Glasgow Live interviewed one of its members, who we will call Michelle to maintain anonymity, she said: "I came into the fellowship when I was 21 . For as long as I can remember I always had an anxiety around food, there was something in me that always wanted more - I would look around at my siblings and cousins and wonder 'is it just me?'
Thanks to AEA, Michelle found peace with food and is well into her recovery journey. The 26-year-old said she felt "terribly ashamed" when attending her first meeting, however, she now feels "released" from her illness and is incredibly open when discussing life with an eating disorder in the hopes to encourage others.
Talking about her own experience, Donna added: "My life revolved around food - at the time I didn't know it was part of a mental, emotional problem until I understood that it was an addiction just like any other which is when I found help and became freed from it."
