The opening episode of the 19th series of The Apprentice delivers familiar tropes and predictable tasks, leaving viewers to question if the show has run out of ideas. Despite its silliness and self-importance, the episode is a reminder of the show's increasingly outdated approach to business and work.

But the opening episode of this 19th series tests even my patience.

“The level of competitiveness I have is disgusting,” boasts meal prep entrepreneur and competitive bodybuilder Mia. “I am the human equivalent of a tank.” So far, so familiar.
