This guide highlights the best early game horses in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, analyzing their stats and suitability for different playstyles.
Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Soon after starting your journey in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you will want to look for a horse unless you fancy trudging across Bohemia on foot nursing Henry’s aggravatingly fast-depleting stamina.
And, you know, what is a plucky young squire without his trusty steed? There are hundreds of horses to choose from throughout Henry’s adventure, each with different stats and looks. To narrow it down and give you a solid start, we’ll walk you through the best early game horses in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, including their stamina, speed, courage, and more. All of these can be further augmented with gear. Still, a good baseline to build on is the important first step. Of course, personal preference plays a role too – do you value speed over carrying capacity? Or vice versa? Or do you need a horse that won’t be spooked by combat? All of that can change some of the positions on our list.Henry’s original steed, Pebbles, can be obtained after a short stint away from his master. You can get him back from the horse trader in Semine for free if you pass the skill check. Pebbles is a decent starter mount, with decent all-round stats and is reliable to see you through a good portion of the early game. Bitterklee is only a small upgrade compared to Pebbles, with a bit more speed, which comes at the price of courage. You can get Bitterklee in Semine from the same horse trader where you’ll find Pebbles. Where this horse shines is his capacity: it can carry far more than most other steeds. To get Bitterklee, you will have to fork over 1000 groschen to horse trader Ballatay.Tarant is the fastest horse you will come across early on. The trade-off? He’s very skittish. With fairly low courage, he can be a lot to handle when combined with his high speed. Additionally, he’s not the strongest around, so won’t be able to carry much for you. But if speed is what you’re after, you can do far worse than this. You can get Tarant at the same horse trader in Semine for 1220 groschen. Among the horses on sale at the Semine stables, Soldier is the only warhorse. His stats reflect it, too, with higher courage than Pebbles, and great all-round stats, though his speed lacks a bit. He will shine in any skirmishes you happen to ride into, holding his own and letting you fight without issue. His carrying capacity is nothing to scoff at either. However, all of that comes at a price, and Soldier will set you back 1330 groschen. You can get Herring for free at the start of the Back in the Saddle main story quest. Captured by VideoGamer. Just note that if you accept, Herring will replace the horse you’ve been riding up until that point. Getting a horse for free is already great, but Herring will be an upgrade in every way. With good all-round stats, there’s really no reason not to accept Herring as your new steed.
