If 2022 was a return to pre-Covid musical excitement – with a vintage Glastonbury line-up and a slew of big-ticket album releases – 2023 has, so far, felt like the boom has come and gone. Two of the artists behind those albums, Taylor Swift and Beyonce, have been touring, and a few new albums have shone – but we are all in need of a refresh.
Luckily, autumn is the best season for music releases. This time around there are album releases from megastars and thoughtful songwriters , performances from pop divas and pioneering artists , and touring operas and orchestras playing a range of old and new repertoire. Whatever your taste, you’re bound to find something to entertain and move you as the nights draw in. Read on for our pick of the best.At 58, Shania Twain is still going strong – she released her sixth albumearlier this year, which debuted at number 10 on the US album charts. On her global tour you can expect sparkles, hoedowns and nonstop fun as this iconic country artist stomps her way into her 60s.
It’s a new season for the LSO following Simon Rattle’s triumphant, emotional farewell at the Proms with Mahler’s 9. Barbara Hannigan will conduct a programme of Ligeti, Vivier, Haydn, Nono and Strauss and sing soprano alongside mezzo Fleur Barron.It’s only been a year since we were last treated to an album by the master purveyor of “art pop” or “intelligent indie”.
