| Posted on 27 mins agofound guilty of lying about a gang rape in Cyprus - sparking protests from women’s rights and justice campaigners - has pleaded with Boris Johnson to help bring her back to the UK. The woman says she was forced to retract her rape accusation by Greek police which then led to her conviction of public mischief.
'Every second of this ordeal has been a waking nightmare...I’m 19 and all I want to do is clear my name and come home to my family,' she told The Sun. 'I would say to both the foreign secretary and prime minister, both of whom are fathers, please support me with your actions, not just with your words.'
Her family had been hoping that the verdict would allow their daughter to return to the UK but now that she has been found guilty of ‘public mischief’, i.e. of lying about having been raped, she faces up to a year in prison. Sentencing will take place on 7 January.
