It's better if it's battered is the motto of chippies - and that applies to Christmas favourites. From pigs in blankets to Brussels sprouts and even mince pies, a number of chippies across Nottinghamshire are putting their own spin on festive classics.

"We'll get messages beforehand, when are the Brussels coming up, then on social media you'll get people loving then and you'll get people saying I don't believe you're doing that - it is a bit of a split but they are popular. Foot-long battered pigs in blankets have become a firm favourite every year for customers at Bestwood Fisheries, in Arnold Road, Bestwood. The sausages, wrapped in bacon, coated in batter and deep fried have never gone out of fashion but owner Antonio Tsiolas is always on the look-out for something new.
