It's based on a number of factors
New data from the Office for National Statistics shows that the Newark and Sherwood district was recorded as having some of the lowest rated schools in the county. The statistics were published on July 25, after the educational attainment of school students who sat their GCSEs in the 2012/13 school year were analysed.
The index includes: proportion of pupils in town/city achieving Level 4 or above in key tage 2 in English and Maths at age 11 ; proportion of pupils that achieved 5 GCSE or more, including English and Maths, with grades A*-C at age 16 ; proportion the 2012/13 KS4 cohort achieving a Level 3 qualification by age 18 ; an average of the highest levels of qualification achieved by the 2012/13 key stage 4 cohort by age 22 .
“The new Air and Space Institute , led by Newark College and supported by Nottingham Trent University will deliver fantastic new ways into military and civil aviation, whether it be engineering, ground crews, or starting a pilot journey. We also now have the Newark College Construction Centre of Excellence offering new opportunities in building trades and gas engineering and the YMCA Community and Activity Village.
However, despite having some of the lowest scores, the district is also home to one of the best rated areas. Southwell was found to be the third best rated area in the county, with an impressive score of 8.3, which is above the national average.
