A Rochdale -born entrepreneur who moved to America almost 20 years ago has returned to his hometown to take on the renovation of a 200-year-old building where he had his wedding reception.
There were plans tabled to convert the site into six “higher value” family homes announced by Rochdale Council in October 2022 – but two years later, didn’t seem to have gone anywhere. In a video posted yesterday announcing the project, Thakur is filmed standing in the exact spot where he gave his speech at his wedding reception in 1994. It also features drone shots of the hall in its current state.
He also has not said how much he paid to buy the hall. Around the time when plans were approved to turn the site into five homes, it was listed at a guide price of £700,000.
