Twenty two refugee women are taking part in a 640 kilometre trek from Melbourne all the way to the Parliament House in Canberra.

Harini Rathnakumar, one of the participants in the walk whose family is from India, explains what they hope to achieve. Rathi Barthlote, a mother of three from Sri Lanka, and one of the founders of Refugee Women Action for Visa Equality, says this has had severely affected her and her children. Samira Turkian Zadeh, an asylum seeker from Iran and also a mother from three is another participant in the march. She says refugees such as herself have done more than enough to prove that they're worthy of a permanent place in Australian society.
