The bus gate is affecting businesses

On a relatively sunny and quiet midweek afternoon in Preston , motorists were travelling through the city to get to work, university or for social reasons.

"I've worked in this site for 13 years and even I've got fined," Vicky told LancsLive. "It would make sense for people to drive around the back as an alternative route, just before the bus gate starts. An argument some residents and visitors have put forward is the positioning of the signage which reads "Bus lane cameras" which a blue sign showing a bike, bus and taxi, all of which are permitted to drive through the bus gate. People say these signs needs to be moved as people unfamiliar with the area or think the road is passable, may not be aware of the change to the road until they're already driving through it.

Recalling a time he was caught by cameras in Preston a long time ago, Fabien says he hasn't wanted to get caught again and was surprised to receive a letter for this. He added: "Obviously not a lot of people are aware of it, or are just getting caught by accident like me. "I thought, what is going on? Why didn't they send me another notice or anything, saying I hadn't paid the bill? We emailed them complaining and then emailed us to say it was reduced to £35."
