Nottingham City Council has been granted extra powers to tackle traffic offences by the Department for Transport and aims to start enforcement against 'rule-flouting drivers' soon

Nottingham drivers will be fined for making illegal U-turns or driving the wrong way up one-way streets after new powers were granted to the city council. Nottingham City Council has been granted extra powers to tackle traffic offences by the Department for Transport, with the authority looking to start enforcement against "rule-flouting drivers" in early 2024.

Sheriffs Way/Queens Road at its junction with Arkwright Street is another road targeted by the scheme. No Left/No Right Turn into Arkwright Street would be allowed under new rules, as the council says this creates a significant risk of fatality or serious injury by conflicting with a green man pedestrian phase.

A PCN is £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days and any revenue received from this type of enforcement is ring fenced under legislation, the city council explained. Nottingham City Council said the reason for taking on the new powers was to improve road safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
