'This is happening in the UK at this present time.'
brings back the cast of the original series 25 years on, but this isn't some empty nostalgic celebration. The show uses the opportunity to look at working-class areas in Britain today, and how people are being failed by the healthcare, employment and education systems.
This is heartbreakingly explored through the character Horse, the older gentleman who joined the striptease troupe in the original film. Now elderly and clearly unfit for work, we see him being told that he has to travel for an assessment that declares he has to carry on working. He's then fired for not being well enough, and has his benefits taken away. After being unable to afford food, he dies alone at a bus stop.
