A Freedom of Information request revealed how much money the council raked in from bus lanes since 2021
More than £300,000 has been raked in by Tameside Council in the last three years from bus lane fines alone.
Bus lanes can only be used by buses, taxis and cyclists - disabled drivers/blue badge holders are not exempt from bus lane enforcement. The council states that the money generated from these fines goes straight back into the maintenance and improvement of highways in the borough. “We want people to abide by the highway restrictions in place but we will take enforcement action where people are in breach and we are able to do so by meeting the standards for clear and safe signage.”
