A massive regeneration scheme is starting in Salford Crescent with thousands of new homes on the way
Swathes of the city have been rebuilt as part of huge regeneration works.
Some in Salford are struggling to find good quality affordable housing, she said, and was worried that simply building more could add to the issue if rents remain high. While it includes thousands of new homes, the number of these which will be 'affordable' and priced below market rates is not yet known.
Students at Salford University said the investment around the Crescent area is much-needed - as well as more places to live.He said: “It’s a good thing, we need more people and homes here for people to enjoy. Rent prices are always going up around here so we need affordable homes. A University of Salford spokesperson said that the project will "deliver innovative regeneration work" to benefit the community, and provide "vital housing and sustainable travel options."A new estate with nearly 500 homes around Clarendon Park was approved last year by the council, with 30 percent set to be ‘affordable’ properties priced below market rates.
Salford’s growing population would support that view, after more than 30,000 people moved there between 2011 and 2021 according to Census data.
