The Microsoft billionaire says Australia should sit out the debate on nuclear energy but has world-leading opportunities in solar, wind - and reducing the methane gas released by burping cows.

The role of natural gas is a little bit up in the air. It [can be] a way of making green hydrogen – we can use water as the starting point or methane natural gas as the starting point. We have, in the Breakthrough Energy portfolio, a company called C-Zero that has made incredible progress. It has competitors, but I think it’s the leader in converting natural gas into green hydrogen. Then when you burn the green hydrogen, that’s completely clean. You can also use it to make steel or heat homes.

We saw the first Australian investment in our newspaper this morning, actually [in a report about Rumin8.] Well, we’re certainly not going to get people to be vegetarians. Although from a climate point of view, and maybe from a health point of view if you’re careful to take the right vitamins, that’s beneficial.

The difficulty is transmission. We have several companies that are going to dramatically, we hope, reduce the cost of transmission.
