We take a look back at the first version of the infamous Lytham Festival

We've gone back in time to take a look at the humble beginnings of a festival currently taking the Fylde Coast by storm.

Local resident and archivist, David Hoyle spoke to LancsLive about how the very first Lytham festival was started by his dad, a Councillor and Lytham business owner, back in the early nineties. "My dad was Chairman of the Ratepayers, a Mason in the Lions, The Round Table and Rotary Club and he started the twin town with Verne."He wanted a free concert on the green for locals to enjoy and used his own money to fund the first event.

"It was just a big sing song, with people waving their flags and the Army band playing Rule Britannia and songs like that. A few fireworks were let off at the end and people made their way home, it was all about raising money for different charities. By the time the third festival had occurred, David's dad stepped back from it altogether and with the years that followed, the festival got bigger and bigger. Now, it is run by Cuffe and Taylor, two local lads who had the idea to turn the event into a one-night only festival.
