What curveballs could Steve Clarke have up his sleeve for the big opener against Germany? KEITH JACKSON : The ‘ James Forrest at right wing back’ idea remains a personal favourite but looks more and more unlikely to actually be deployed, in the opener at least. Clarke’s starting XI will look like Friday night’s but with Che Adams in for Lawrence Shankland and Scott McTominay replacing Ryan Christie.
MICHAEL GANNON: There will be no need for curveballs. It will be the tried and trusted for Clarke with McTominay coming in, Anthony Ralston at right wing back and Che Adams up top. We need another display like that wild night against Spain at Hampden. SCOTT B: I hope we can make history and get out of the group. That would be the ultimate, I would certainly hope we can go better than Euro 2020 and get a group win.
SCOTT McD: France and Germany will be the two to beat. The hosts aren’t at their best but on home soil with their fans at their back, I expect them to go far. France has the most talented squad in the tournament and it will be a major surprise if they don’t make the semi-finals at least. With that, you’d have to fancy Mbappe for top scorer. Fullkrug and Bruno Fernandes could be outside bets.
Who are the dark horses to watch out for in Germany? KEITH: Granted, it’s a long shot but don’t rule England out for a place in the knock-out rounds!
