Preston café where you pay more if you don't have manners
A dad from Preston has launched his dream enterprise by bringing a taste of homemade food to the area.
Usman had originally only planned to serve hot drinks and doughnuts. Chai, meaning tea, is a much of a comfort in South Asian culture as it in British culture but just weeks after opening, Usman spotted an even bigger gap in the market. "In May, we released the full food menu. When we first opened, for the first two weeks it was only from 4pm until 10pm," Usman said. "We worked on very limited hours but everyone that came in said that we needed to open earlier. So we did that and then no one was here, we came back in May, opened at 11 in the morning and we were just sat around.
"The food is all mum's recipes and tea is my wife's. I've married for two years now, every time I've been at home I've been saying to my wife this tea is amazing we could sell it," he said. "Even when we opened up the lads would come in and say 'oh this tea's amazing' and I said I'd thought I'd share with you all because I've just been having this amazing tea all to myself.
Having a warm and friendly atmosphere is one of the key elements to the café, one that Usman says is a requirement for all his staff members who work their. But the dad of one has extended that friendly rapport to his customers and opted for a "funny way" to spark conversations.
