Pendle has tipped a North West list of shame after new figures show it has highest rate of fly-tipping in the region.
Last week, five people were fined by Pendle Borough Council for dumping waste on the borough's streets. In separate cases at Burnley Magistrates Court, the five offenders – all from Nelson - were ordered to pay a total of £5,373 between them.Each was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice and ordered to pay £150 but when they failed to pay, the crimes were referred to Burnley Magistrates Court. All of the five Nelson residents failed to appear in court.
Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “The Council tries its best to keep the borough clean and tidy and we expect residents to do the same with their neighbourhoods, respecting their fellow neighbours and the areas in which they live.”
