Five teenagers were sentenced for the murder of Sean McHugh in 2013
The sickening murder of a teenager who was stabbed to death in a launderette brought to light a violent dispute involving an Anfield gang known as the Lane Heads. The murder of Sean McHugh made national headlines such was the barbaric nature of a gang attack perpetrated largely by schoolboys. It also then became the subject of an ITV documentary as one of the young killers sought to overturn his conviction.
Judge Goldstone told them: 'That is until now – now you have been convicted of the murder of Sean McHugh; much of your remorse, I have no doubt, is based on regret at being caught and convicted – had it been true sorrow and shame for what each of you did and was a party to, it would have come earlier and been reflected in some, at least partial admission of guilt.
