ITV's reality show rewarded loyalty with endless ad breaks and pointless recaps. Still, the right couple were crowned the winners... eventuallyis a British institution. But for the last few series what was once the hottest dating show on TV has been off the boil, with simply not enough chemistry to fill eight-weeks-worth of watchable flirting and/or fighting.
At least, it does if you’re in it for the chaos. I’m sure some viewers watch strictly in the name of L-O-V-E, but personally I’ve always been more rapt by the drama – betrayals, love triangles, Casa Amor – than the affable monogamy that some contestants fall into. Nice… but nice doesn’t make great TV.
