John Kavanagh sadly passed away before McCowan's big move but new Hoops star knows he's looking down at loving it
You'll Never Walk Alone echoed around Celtic Park last Sunday and the words hit home like never before for Luke McCowan.
“Coming on for my debut against Rangers, I think John would have been greeting his eyes out if he had been able to see that. He was a bit like an uncle to me in football. And it was a sad time, obviously, when he passed. It was a real shock, because he was a very, very private guy. “He always said, ‘One day you’ll play for Celtic’. So he’d always hype me up. I think when he passed as well, it was just a pure motivating factor of, if I get there, man, I’m going to do that for him.”
‘That’s going to help my family, help my life. So it’s a massive thing for them, even in sport, just in life in general. They’re so thrilled. They don’t shut up about it, that’s for sure. “I’ve had a few wee guys coming to my mum and dad’s door asking for autographs and that, which is nice, but at some point you need to tell them to stay out the garden!”
