We went to Old Market Square to ask people what they would do with a blank cheque to spend on Nottingham city centre - and it's safe to say that one thing came up again and again...
Nearly a year has passed since Nottingham City Council effectively went bankrupt, an event that led to cuts in public services. The city has seen a reduction in events and what some might consider non-essential expenditures.
Elliott Barks said: "I'd definitely do a scheme for homelessness cause that's very big in Nottingham," and also suggested support for local commerce, adding: "Smaller businesses maybe as well - because the market in the Victoria Centre - that's just gone downhill. I used to like going there as a child. It's dead now. I'd invest in independent shops instead of putting chains everywhere.
Barber Chris Melson, originally from the USA but a Nottingham resident for almost half his life, shared his views on what would make the city more family-friendly: "We could make it more family friendly by having less traffic in the city centre too. Maybe trams should stop at the top of town and people can walk in and this centre could be kept more open plan."
The prevalent concern of homelessness among Nottingham residents was underscored by the responses, but Matt Feetham of Forest Fields had a different take. The 43 year old expressed a desire to boost Nottingham's nightlife which he feels has become too subdued.
