The market is obviously beloved in the community, and footfall was steady throughout the morning we were there, especially around lunchtime. There was only one table left at Heavens Cafe, where our photographer Kenny and I enjoyed delicious omelettes, coffees and buttered toast. Staff at the Butcher Bar were measured about the situation. "It is quiet but it's the time of year, summer holidays," they said. "We just need local people to keep coming and using the market - use us or lose us."
