Hello Paul Dennett doesn't claim to have a crystal ball. But through a mixture of prudence and foresight he seemed to anticipate the saga over winter fuel payments.
But despite being more prepared than most for the imminent cuts to pensioners' incomes, the mayor is still concerned about the move. "Within a context of scarcity - and boy do we know that in local government after 14 years of cuts - do I think millionaires should be receiving the winter fuel payments right now? Probably not,” he told politics writer Joseph Timan.
“We're having a technical glitch at the moment," she said. "It's showing wind speeds far too fast - in fact, hurricane strength. And, of course, that is not the case at all. Between 2020 and 2023, GMP seized 232 guns - more than any other force in the north west. And there’s been a steady decrease in known shootings, with 58 in 2021; 29 in 2022; and 26 in 2023. There have been 18 incidents involving guns in 2024 to date. Chief reporter Neal Keeling has more here
