Sir John, who presided over the inquiry, ruled that because Abedi died a violent death, an inquest was necessary in law. But he found that a public hearing - which would examine swathes of evidence relating to the bomber’s death - would not be in the public interest. "In all those circumstances, the coroner took the view it was entirely unnecessary to have any form of hearing and it would have been a waste of public money to do so,” they said.

The Community Security Trust also reports that a grocery delivery driver shouted 'free Palestine' at the Jewish residents of a house in Manchester. The CST said 35 incidents of antisemitism have been recorded in our region since the Hamas terror attack on Israel earlier this month. Hamas has blamed an Israeli air strike for killing hundreds of people at the al Ahli hospital, in Gaza, last night. But the Israeli military blamed a misfiring rocket from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.

Yesterday, the coroner heard from Adam Chowdhary, Yousef’s 'best friend'. During the hearing he was forced to deny he had repeatedly lied to police 'to protect' himself. On Tuesday evening, another crash involving a double decker bus took place on Manchester Road in Walkden. Pictures from the scene showed a white minibus with damage to doors and windows.

He was 37 when he was found guilty of carrying out a violent sex attack on a woman by the M61 motorway in Salford. He was convicted despite no DNA evidence. He told The Guardian it is likely to be two years before he sees any compensation as he plans a civil claim. "You need financial freedom to be truly free, don't you? And I don't have that," he said.

The vast Aviva Studios - which designers say is just under the length of a Boeing 747 - will host a year-round programme of original productions and special events. It will also provide a permanent home for the Manchester International Festival.
