“We just got each other,” Hollywood stylist Micaela Erlanger tells BritishVogue of helping to steer her client Lupita_Nyongo from industry unknown to fashion force to be reckoned with.
. “The red carpet doesn’t need to be this precious thing,” insists Erlanger. “It’s an opportunity to have fun, take risks, and express yourself.” If she had to describe a Lupita look in one word, it would be “vibrant”.When it comes to awards season, the squad’s method dressing is put to one side in favour of all-out glamour.
“Lupita is the star of her own life and she dresses for that role in those moments.”If any of these narratives seem to err on the side of whimsy for a woman whose career has been defined by roles with the power to shift a narrative, make no mistake: Nyong’o is hungry for fashion and she does her homework. “She’s an expert in tailoring and silhouettes, and her knowledge of what suits her allows her to be more daring,” says Erlanger.
