“I want to keep going as long as my body will keep me going. This feeds me, it feeds me like I feed other people.'
Nestled next to a car wash on Ormskirk Road in Wigan is a little known sandwich shop that has become a local gem. It has just one staff member and has been feeding the community for almost four decades.
Carole's still sells reasonably priced bits and bobs, from sterilised milk in glass bottles to cakes, pies, Wigan kebabs, sweets and even birthday cards. However, what Carole’s is best known for is its delicious sandwiches that have been hailed ‘the best butties in Wigan' for their freshness and generous amount of filling.
Carole says she owes all her success and longevity to the sandwiches, but she claims there’s also an intangible factor that has kept people coming back for more over the years and it’s to do with a healing energy she puts in the food.
