'These music cafes will offer crucial support'
A group of cafes have launched across Greater Manchester offering a ‘real transformation’ to people with dementia.
The project will focus on a series of research-based music therapy programmes, as well as ten music cafes aimed at supporting people living with dementia which have begun sessions this week.
The initiative will also train up more than 300 members of the public as Music Champions who will then be able to run their own Music Cafes later down the line. Following previously-held classes in care homes and community groups across the country, the sessions will also be used as research from The University of Manchester and NHS GM to look into the impact of how these music sessions can help people living with dementia.
“The work that Manchester Camerata and its partners are doing to improve lives and embed music into dementia healthcare is more important than ever. These music cafes will offer crucial support for people living with dementia across our city-region and provide a national model for a more integrated approach to health and social care policies.”
